No More Rounding Down...

Guess who is suddenly one and a half?!?! I know, you thought I'd gotten away from all of the earth-shattering developmental "ohmigosh my kid GREW!" posts. Sorry. But 18 months is a big deal...every day after today means this kid is closer in age to two than he is to one. And he's definitely ACTING like it!. Yeesh.

Some 18-month-old snippets for your viewing pleasure:

1. In honor of the big day, I (finally) relented and gave our little man his first haircut last night. I was actually convinced awhile ago that it needed to happen--almost two months ago when we went to the museum and a mom told her kid to "watch out for that little girl." Aren't boy clothes kind of a universal language? Anyway, I just had to nurse his darling blond curls a little longer before they were goners and there was no turning back. Now, not only does he look like a boy, he looks super cute and old. Sigh...

BEFORE...
The last time I'll be able to do this!

DURING...
Uh...Mom, what are those things? - Gonna comb my own hair - Action shot - Forget sitting nicely
on your lap with a towel, I'm gonna play with my truck!

AFTER!

2. I know I've played this game of "Like Father, Like Son" before, but the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree. The other day when I was shuffling through pictures in the basement, this little gem popped out at me:

I still can't really grasp the fact that the baby in the picture above and the baby in the pictures below are not one in the same. Or at least twins. Tell me I'm not crazy, and that this should be the same kid? But no, there is indeed a father-son generational gap. The only things that gave it away for me were the sweet retro high chair and dishes...

3. Speaking of high chairs, we've retired the weary wooden high chair early because Ethan thinks it is no longer cool. Big brother and sister sit in big chairs, so why shouldn't he? So now he has a big boy (booster) chair too. Which he spends all day climbing up into and then down again, thinking it's his personal little throne. But in recent days even that doesn't suit his big boy agenda. Today at breakfast he asked to get down, and when I set his tray on the table he promptly climbed into the chair next to him, transferred his cereal from the tray to the table, and sat down on the big chair to eat like a real big boy.

Too good for my booster seat.

4. The adorable chattering somehow continues to get more adorable. This past week little man really took off with his gibberish conversations, talking to anyone and everyone who would listen. He's especially chatty anytime he picks up a real or pretend phone, saying "hello!" and "how are you!" and "mm-hmm..." with some other unintelligible burbling thrown in. He also didn't want to be left out of the dinner conversation the other night, and had a goofy little exchange with his daddy.

I promise he doesn't always run around
shirtless...just around mealtime when wearing
a shirt would be disastrous to its survival.

Guy talk.
